The Black-faced Monarch Monarcha melanopsis is a passerine bird in the family Monarchidae. The Black-faced Monarch was most likely discovered sometime in the 1810s, although its original discovery is somewhat controversial. According to many bird books, the original discoverer of the Black-faced Monarch was Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot, in the year 1818.
